Excel axe 10 summer routes

Humberside Airport suffered a major blow yesterday, after it emerged that Excel Airways is withdrawing 10 services from the airport next summer. The move follows Ryanair's decision earlier this month to cut flights to Dublin from the airport.
Excel took passengers to destinations including Malaga, the Canary Islands, Paphos in Cyprus, and Dalaman on Turkey's Mediterranean coast from Humberside this summer. It also planned two new routes to Sharm-el-Sheikh and Corfu, which have also been scrapped.
A spokesman for Humberside Airport said: 'Due to some fleet rationalisation plans, Excel Airways will not be basing an aircraft of their own at Humberside Airport next summer. The Airport is now working closely with other tour operators and airlines to replace the flying programme and take up routes which XL.com had on sale.'
